In 1238, a large army of the Golden Horde attacked the small Russian town of Kozelsk for two months. Thousands of Mongolian warriors died, and countless siege weapons were used, yet the town remained steadfast, demonstrating to the enemy the indestructibility and resilience of the Russian spirit. After this battle, Khan Batu ordered that his name be forgotten forever and that the town henceforth be referred to as the Evil City.
